Men Shot 6 Rounds At Officers' Camden Home While Baby Slept: Cops

Police are searching for two men who shot at the home of Camden County police officers while their infant slept Tuesday night.

CAMDEN, NJ — Authorities are looking for two people who shot at a home that belonged to two Camden County Police Officers who just had a baby late Tuesday night.

They fired six rounds at the couple’s home on the 2900 block of Clinton Street just before midnight while the couple and their infant were on the second floor, officials said during a news conference Thursday.

Two rounds made it through the front door into the home, according to Camden County Police Chief Joseph Wysocki. Seven more shell casings were found in front of the home, Wysocki said.

The officers have been with the department for four years and two years, respectively. They were uninjured and remain on leave, according to officials. They weren't identified, but 6 ABC reports that they are married and the child is 10 days old. Camden County Police have been stationed in the area as the investigation continues.

Detectives found a 1998 dark-colored Honda Odyssey with a temporary paper tag they believe was involved in the incident early Thursday and had it towed for further investigation, according to authorities.

“This attack on our officers wan an affront to the department and will not be tolerated,” Wysocki said. “I want to thank our law enforcement partners for the assistance they’ve provided us in the early stages of this investigation. We are asking for the public’s help with this case and for them to provide any information that they may have in regard to this shooting.”

On Friday, Gov. Phil Murphy said he was "shocked and disgusted by the cowardly actions" of those who shot at the home.

"Thankfully, no one in the family was hurt, but now we need to find those responsible for this heinous act and bring them to justice," Murphy said during a news conference Friday afternoon. "Our police are not just the women and men who protect our communities. In many cases, they are members of the communities where they serve. They are our friends. They are our neighbors."

There were no new developments in the case Friday afternoon, according to the prosecutor's office.

Authorities said in a release that information about a reward would be forthcoming, but nj.com reported that the FBI, ATF and local Fraternal Order of Police Lodge 218 are offering a $20,000 reward for information that leads to an arrest.

Wysocki was joined by county, state and federal law enforcement representatives at Thursday’s news conference.

“I want to send a clear message to the scumbag thugs behind this senseless act. We’re coming to get you," Camden County Freeholder Louis Capelli said during the conference, according to NBC 10.

Wysocki said the attack wasn’t a coincidence, as it is “very common knowledge” that the officers live in that home, according to CBS 3.
