NJ Teen Charged In Fatal Crash Was Driving Over 100 MPH: Police

A teen motorist was going upwards of 100 mph per hour just before fatally hitting a Gloucester County woman in February, police said.

NEW JERSEY - A teen motorist was going upwards of 100 mph per hour just before fatally hitting a Gloucester County woman in February, police said.

Tyler Proffitt, 19, of Turnersville, was charged with death by auto on Monday in connection with the fatal crash that occurred on Feb. 25 on Route 42/North Black Horse Pike and Maxine Avenue. He was also charged with assault by auto and endangering the welfare of a child.

A joint investigation from the Monroe Township Police Department and the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office found that Proffitt was driving over 100 miles per hour in a Subaru Impreza with a 12-year-old passenger just before fatally striking a 39-year-old Williamstown woman.

NJ.com reports that Proffitt’s car hit the driver’s side of the woman’s Hyundai Elantra as she attempted to make a left turn onto Route 42 northbound. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene, the outlet said.
