South Jersey Woman Used Nail Clipper To Kill Man: Police

MILLVILLE, NJ — A South Jersey woman has been charged with murder after police say she fatally stabbed the man she lived with using a nail clipper, authorities announced on Tuesday.

Kathleen Ayala, 30, stabbed 35-year-old Axel Torres with a nail clipper after the two got into a physical fight inside their home on Second Street in Millville early Sunday morning, according to the Cumberland County Prosecutor’s Office.

Torres left the home and Ayala chased after him with the nail clipper, ultimately stabbing him, according to authorities.

Millville police were called to the home at about 1:06 a.m. for the report of a stabbing. Arriving officers found Torres unresponsive and suffering from a stab wound to his left leg, authorities said.

Officers rendered aid until emergency medical personnel arrived and took him to the Cooper Hospital, according to the prosecutor’s office. He was listed in critical condition.

Ayala was initially charged with assault and weapons offenses, according to authorities. On Monday, Torres was pronounced deceased as a result of his injuries, and the charges were upgraded to murder. She was lodged in Cumberland County Jail.

Police didn’t say what the relationship between Torres and Ayala was. However, nj.com reports that they were married, and that Ayala told police she only meant to scare him. She also said Torres took the nail clipper from her after she stabbed him, but police weren't able to find the item.
