GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — Gloucester Township police said on Tuesday that they have received several complaints of people illegally parking their cars in accessible parking spots without the proper tags or placards being displayed.

“Our officers have stepped up enforcement, and will issue traffic summons to vehicles improperly parking in accessible parking areas,” police said in an alert to the community. “This includes both Shop Rite stores, Wawa stores, Gloucester Outlets, Shoppes at Cross Keys, and all other retail stores.”

They said that parking the spot for even just a minute is a minute too long.

“Never park in a space ‘reserved’ for people with disabilities unless you have a person with a disability ID Card and identifying placard/plates,” police said. “It’s the courteous thing to do — and it’s the law.”

Police also reminded residents not to park in the striped access aisles next to spaces reserved for people with disabilities, even if they have a permit or plates. The access aisles provide room for wheelchair users to transfer safely to and from their vehicles.
