Person Shot During Police Encounter At South Jersey Rest Stop: AG
State authorities didn't say who shot the individual, his current condition or what prompted the incident.

PEDRICKTOWN, NJ — A person got shot "in the presence of law enforcement" Tuesday afternoon at a South Jersey rest stop, according to state authorities. The New Jersey Office of the Attorney General will investigate the incident.
The shooting occurred at about 1:45 p.m. Tuesday at the New Jersey Turnpike’s Clara Barton Service Area in Pedricktown, Salem County. The incident involved members of the New Jersey State Police and the U.S. Marshals Service, investigators said.
The AG's office didn't publicly identify the male civilian. The agency's brief news release about the incident, who shot him or what prompted the encounter.

The Office of Public Integrity and Accountability within the AG's office is conducting the review, pursuant to a 2019 state directive requiring an independent investigation of criminal cases involving police use of force and in-custody deaths.
The AG's office declined to release additional details as the review is ongoing. The agency typically reveals more details about such encounters, including the identities of officers involved, several weeks after its initial announcement of the investigation.
