South Jersey Woman Kills Rabid Fox With Bare Hands: Report

The fox attacked 52-year-old Tammy DuBois at her Pittsgrove home. It later tested positive for rabies.

A rabid fox made a deadly mistake when it recently attacked a woman in South Jersey. The Pittsgrove resident used her bare hands to strangle and then kill the sick animal.

Tammy DuBois, 52, was on her way out to her garden when she was attacked by a fox, according to nj.com. The fox bit her right leg twice while making a barking-like “yip, yip, yip” sound. When she attempted to escape, it followed her into her home.

As she climbed the steps of her porch in an attempt to get inside, the fox attacked her a second time. It began gnawing on her leg, according to nj.com. She had no garden tools, and thus no weapons with which to fight off the attack. So DuBois did the only thing she could.

She used her hands. She held the fox’s mouth shut with one hand, and wrapped the other around its neck, according to the report. She strangled it until it stopped moving.

"I couldn't do anything else to get it away from me, I don't like to kill anything," said DuBois, who was treated at a hospital, according to the Asbury Park Press.
