Railroad Project, Gas Main Work Begins Monday On Warwick Road

Conrail and South Jersey Gas will both begin projects on Monday, Aug. 5.

Conrail crews will upgrade a railroad grade crossing at the intersection of Warwick Road and East Atlantic Avenue in Somerdale/Magnolia beginning Monday, Aug. 5, Camden County officials announced on Friday.

As a result, Warwick Road and East Atlantic Avenue will be closed to thru traffic between Evesham Road and Somerdale Road. The intersection will be completely closed. Drivers will be directed along a posted detour route.

The same detour will be used by South Jersey Gas during a gas main replacement project on Warwick Road in Magnolia that begins the same day.

“Multiple projects will be taking place on the roadway at the same time for a period of this project, resulting in additional potential hazards for motorists to be aware of,” Freeholder Susan Shin Angulo, liaison to the Camden County Department of Public Works, said. “Motorists must be extra careful when approaching and driving through the construction area, and should always remain alert for crew members, construction vehicles, and other debris in the roadway.”

The Conrail project is expected to run through Aug. 26. South Jersey Gas’s project is expected to run through Aug. 9. The timing for both projects depends on weather and other factors.
