A ramp along I-295 north and several lanes on Route 42 in the area will be closed for the next three nights for milling and paving, the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) announced on Thursday.

Closures will take place from 9 p.m. Thursday night until 6 a.m. Friday morning; 9 p.m. Friday night until 6 a.m. Saturday night; and 9 p.m. Saturday night until 9 a.m. Sunday morning.

The work is part of the $900 million Direct Connection project that will provide a seamless route for I-295 motorists traveling through the interchange of I-295, I-76, and Route 42. The Direct Connection project has been divided into four separate construction contracts, with completion of the fourth and final contract expected in the fall of 2024.

“Overnight closures can still cause significant traffic delays and backups throughout the nearby area during construction hours,” Freeholder Susan Shin Angulo, liaison to the Camden County Department of Public Works, said. “Motorists should be aware that normal traffic patterns may be altered while this detour is in place and plan accordingly. As always, be extra cognizant of sudden stops and reduced speeds on the roadway when driving in or around the construction zone.”

The I-295 northbound Exit 26 ramp to I-76 eastbound will be closed in conjunction with lane closures on Route 42 northbound for milling and paving.
