Scammer Posing As Gloucester Twp. Mayor Asking For Money: Police

Police have been alerted that scam emails seeking gift cards are coming from a scammer posing as Gloucester Township Mayor David Mayer.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — No, the mayor of Gloucester Township isn’t asking you for money by email. That’s just what a creative scammer wants you to believe.

Gloucester Township police said they received information early Thursday morning that a gift card scam email is circulating from "David R. Mayer" with the subject "Gift Card Needed ASAP!"
Residents are warned not to open these emails. Police are investigating this scam.

“Quick tip to remember: official government agencies (Gloucester Township, the IRS, Law Enforcement Agencies, etc.) do not ask for gift cards,” police told residents. “Please do not fall for these email or phone scams, and simply delete the email or hang up on the caller.”
