MONROE TOWNSHIP, NJ — A swimmer who went missing in a Gloucester County lake has died in a possible drowning, police said.

Crews began searching for a missing person at about 2 p.m. Thursday at a lake near Jackson and Malaga roads in Williamstown. The person went swimming and didn't resurface, authorities told Action News.

Their death was deemed accidental, said Tom Gilbert, acting chief of the Gloucester County Prosecutor's Office. Gilbert deferred to Monroe police for further information — the local agency is leading the investigation since the death was not suspicious, he told Patch.
