Smash-Hit Burger Joint Rebrands To Avoid Lawsuits As It Expands Beyond Camden Co.

RUNNEMEDE, NJ — A smash-hit burger joint that originated in Camden County is changing its name to avoid the risk of lawsuits.

SmashBros opened less than two years ago in Runnemede, turning a 500-square-foot eatery into a growing chain with national ambitions.

However, SmashBros is rebranding to Burger Runn. In a video announcement, co-owners Mohammad "Mo" Abuhmoud and his younger brother Fahmi Abuhmoud said they're changing the name to avoid potential lawsuits.

The video begins with a brief skit. The brothers are playing video games when someone hands them an envelope with a legal notice, which Fahmi reads and tears up.

Then, they explain.

"In under two years, we caught the eyes of some major corporations," Mo Abuhmoud said in the video. "Unfortunately, we do have to change our name, but this is just the beginning of a new chapter."

No specific corporations are mentioned.

The new name, Burger Runn, pays tribute to Runnemede, where the brothers opened their first Smashbros restaurant in 2024.

It quickly developed fanfare, with long lines of diners who traveled from across the region for their densely packed smash burgers.

The brand is now franchising. Locations have since opened in Glassboro and Philadelphia, with another on the way in Princeton.

Everything about the restaurants will remain the same besides the name, according to the Abuhmoud brothers.

The original Burger Runn, formerly SmashBros, is located at 68 W Clements Bridge Rd., Runnemede.
