South Jersey Man Charged in Gloucester Township Bank Robbery

Anthony Melton was also charged with the robbery of a bank in Deptford and an attempted robbery in Monroe.

A South Jersey man has been charged in connection with a bank robbery in Gloucester Township, and a bank robbery and an attempted bank robbery in Gloucester County, Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Gloucester Township Police Chief Harry Earle said Tuesday morning.

Anthony Melton, 38, of Deptford, is charged with first-degree robbery for allegedly robbing the Beneficial Bank at 483 Berlin-Cross Keys Road in Gloucester Township on Nov. 7.

He allegedly entered the bank at 12:10 p.m., passed a demand note to the teller, and fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash.

He did not display a weapon and no one was injured.

About an hour later, he allegedly attempted to rob a Bank of America in Monroe. In that incident, he was charged with criminal attempted robbery by Monroe Police.

Finally, he was charged with robbery by Deptford Police in connection with a robbery at a Fulton Bank in Deptford on Oct. 23.

An investigation by the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and Gloucester Township Police Department identified Melton as the alleged bank robber.

Melton surrendered on Monday morning to the Gloucester County Sheriff’s Department and was transported to Gloucester Township Police headquarters.

His bail was set at $100,000 in the Gloucester Township case; $75,000 in the Deptford case; and $50,000 in the Monroe case.
