Spring tennis began this past weekend in beautiful Gloucester Twp. Community Park. Despite some occasional difficult wind gusts, young players between the ages of 5 and 10, along with their parents, got their first chance to play tennis on the newly- lined park tennis courts. The additional blended-lines, now permanently added to the court surface, break down the larger, adult-sized court into smaller, kid-friendly sections as sanctioned by both the USTA and ITF. When combined with portable nets, slower and lower-bouncing balls, and various size racquets designed for children, success comes much more quickly and with less struggle than ever before. The good turnout showed how popular tennis can be when considering an athletic activity in which all members of the family can participate. I think it is fair to say that everyone in attendance looks forward to Week 2 and the additional skills and fun that will inevitably be a part of the sessions.
