Student Charged After Threat To Middle School In Camden Co.: Police

The incident came in the wake of a deadly school shooting in Georgia, followed by threats against several South Jersey schools.

BELLMAWR, NJ — A student was charged Wednesday after police investigated a potential threat against a Camden County middle school.

Staff at Bell Oaks Middle School in Bellmawr were notified Wednesday morning of a "possible threat with a gun," police said. Law enforcement launched an investigation, which resulted in undisclosed charges against a student.

Police found no weapons on the student — a juvenile — or anywhere at the school. The student was released after police consulted with the Camden County Prosecutor's Office.

The incident happened days after several South Jersey schools received threats of shootings. Deptford Township and Woodbury City schools were closed Monday as a result. Three minors suspected of making the online threats were arrested.

Last week, a student opened fire at a Georgia high school, killing two students and two teachers and injuring several others, authorities said. The incident has amplified national conversations around school shootings and gun laws.
