Roads Reopen, Charging Station Hits Road In Gloucester Township

Police provided an update on the storm cleanup on Saturday.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — Hickstown Road has reopened as progress is being made in the cleanup after a nor'easter struck New Jersey on Friday night, Gloucester Township police said. Erial-Clementon Road is closed between Hickstown Road and Erial Road due to fallen trees on wires.

The Gloucester Township Police Department was set to dispatch its charging trailer Saturday afternoon to assist those with charging their cell phones. Locations and times were set to be posted to social media.

The first storm related call came in at about 9:30 a.m. Friday, and over the next day-and-a-half, Gloucester Township police said they responded to over 200 calls. At least 60 of these calls were storm related. The calls ranged from open doors, alarms and most of them were trees/wires/and poles down.

There were approximately 26 calls for downed trees. On most of these calls, Gloucester Township agencies worked together, according to the police department. The Public Works Department and the six fire districts worked together to reopen roads and remove debris safely.

Late Friday night, power was restored to numerous traffic lights that were out in Gloucester Township earlier in the day. They were being powered by generators that have been set up by the Gloucester Township Department of Public Works. Those generators were installed in 2016. Below is a video related to the switches.
