A transgender woman says she was harassed and told to leave a New Jersey McDonald’s after she used the women's bathroom - a situation McDonald's calls "regrettable."

John Durante, owner/operator of McDonald’s Restaurants in the Philadelphia Region, called the situation "regrettable" and said the incident arose because of "a misunderstanding between her and another customer."

“As an independent owner/operator, I personally strive to be inclusive and accommodating to all of my customers as well as my employees," Durante said on a statement. "Yesterday, Ms. Hill was able to use the restroom of her choice as is permitted under New Jersey Law."
