Triton, Highland Baseball Teams Advance in Playoffs

Triton defeated Pinelands, 6-0, and Highland was an 8-4 winner over Hammonton.

The Triton and Highland high school baseball teams are one step closer to their third meeting of the year.

No. 6 Triton blanked No. 11 Pinelands, 6-0, in the first round of the NJSIAA South Jersey Group III playoffs on Monday, according to nj.com.

Dan Venella struck out four batters, walked three and permitted six hits in six innings of work to pick up the win. Paul Farrell pitched the final inning, striking out two, walking one and allowing one hit.

At the plate, Tylique Carey was 2-for-3 with an RBI, a double and two runs.

Triton visits No. 3 Toms River South in the second round on May 21.

No. 7 Highland broke open a scoreless tie with three runs in the third inning and five in the fourth en route to an 8-4 win over No. 10 Hammonton in the first round on Monday, according to nj.com.

Anthony Maselli picked up the win on the mound with seven strikeouts and one run in six innings of work.

Brian Gallante and Colin Bishop doubled in the win.

Highland visits No. 2 Mainland in the second round on May 21.

If Triton and Highland each win their second round game, they will play in the semifinals on May 26.

When the teams played on April 16, the game ended in a rare 8-8 tie.

Highland won the second game, 3-1, on May 11.
