GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — Assuming the weather holds up, the second of two events to mark the beginning of the holiday season in Gloucester Township is set for this weekend. The annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at Veterans Park is set for Sunday, Dec. 10, 6:30 p.m. Children will have their choice of riding a sleigh, the carousel, a pony or all of the above. Residents can sip on hot chocolate while they listen to Christmas carols sung by the Mainstage Center for the Arts. Police are advising drivers to use caution in the area of Chews Landing Road near the municipal complex beginning at about 6 p.m. While a winter storm is expected to hit the region this weekend, the heaviest of the snowfall is expected between 6 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Saturday, so snowfall may end a full 24 hours before the scheduled tree lighting. A total of 3 to 5 inches of snow may fall on the region. The National Weather Service is calling for partly cloudy skies with a high of about 25 degrees Sunday night. A Code Blue will be in effect for the county this weekend.
