Attempted Kidnapping Investigated By NJ State Police

State Police released a rendering of the unidentified man, who is accused of trying to kidnap a girl outside her home.

MAURICE RIVER TOWNSHIP, NJ — An unknown man tried to abduct a child Sunday in South Jersey, authorities said. State Police asked the public for help identifying him on Tuesday morning.

The man tried to abduct the girl around 11:30 a.m. Sunday outside the victim's home in Maurice River Township, Cumberland County, police said. It happened near the intersection of Route 47 and Main Street.

The suspect was on foot and tried to grab the victim during the encounter, a State Police spokesperson told Patch.

State Police released a rendering of the suspect and described him as a white man who is 30 to 40 years old. He is about 6 feet tall, with a 2-inch jagged scar and white stubbly facial hair, according to the description police relayed.

He was wearing a beanie-style hat, oversized hooded sweatshirt, sweatpants, socks and shoes — all of which were black.
