Impostors Posing as Utility Workers Rob Elderly Woman's Home in Gloucester Township: Police

Gloucester Township Police are seeking two men they say impersonated utility workers and robbed an elderly woman’s home on the unit block of Honey Locust Court on Aug. 10.

The woman told police that she was in her front yard gardening when a man approached her, claiming to be from the water company.

The man is described as white, about 6’ tall, and was wearing a dark blue long sleeve shirt and blue jeans, glasses, a ball cap, and a lanyard around his neck with some type of ID attached to it.

He told her he needed to check her water and make sure there was no dye in it.

She took him into the kitchen, where he checked underneath the kitchen sink and looked at the pipes.

He asked if there was another water source on the first floor, and when she told him there was a powder room, he told her to go there and turn on the water.

She did so, but when she returned to the kitchen, she heard her front door open and close.

She then encountered another man at the top of the steps. This man is described as white, about 5’10”, stocky build, wearing denim shorts.

When he saw her, he immediately apologized for the other man entering her home without permission, referring to him as “boss.”

Despite having a cell phone on him, he asked her to use her phone to call his supervisor. Apparently, he asked to use her phone so he could disable it.

The men then requested to check the basement, but the woman said no. They then left on foot in an unknown direction.

When the victim checked the bedroom, she noticed opened dresser drawers with various items missing from it.
