A New Jersey State Police trooper was able to partially catch the woman, who was climbing down from an Expressway overpass on Thursday.
GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — A state trooper helped break the fall of a woman who fell from an overpass on the Atlantic Expressway on Thursday, New Jersey State Police said.
The woman was sitting on the ledge of the overpass at milepost 41 in Winslow Township at around 1:33 p.m., said New Jersey State Police Sgt. Alejandro Goez. State police were called to the scene for the report of a suicidal person, he said.
Gloucester Township Police, Winslow Township Police, and Gloucester County Prosecutors Office crisis negotiators were speaking with the woman when troopers arrived, Goez said. The woman began walking off the ledge to a safe location when she lost her balance and fell about 20 feet, said Goez.
