Major Project On Busy, Crash-Prone Intersection In Camden County Begins Soon
A $1.2M road-widening project for Route 561 at White Horse Road is set to break ground in a few weeks. Here's what to know.

VOORHEES, NJ — A major road-widening project meant to improve safety and decrease congestion at an overburdened Voorhees intersection is set to break ground in a few weeks, officials said.
Route 561 at White Horse Road will be widened in the westbound direction, allowing for an additional through lane for westbound traffic and a dedicated lane for left turns onto White Horse Road northbound from the eastbound direction.
The $1.2 million project aims to reduce collisions and traffic in the busy, crash-prone intersection. Currently, approaching vehicles cannot safely shift into a single through-lane.

Work will begin April 1 and take four to six months to complete. Most of the construction will occur overnight to avoid major disruptions, said Camden County Commissioner Al Dyer.
The project timeline is subject to change because of weather and other variables.

Work was originally set to begin last fall but was postponed because of delays in the delivery of necessary materials, according to the county officials.
"We are thrilled to get started on this transformative project that will make it much easier and most importantly safer to make a left onto White Horse Road from Route 561," Dyer said. "We will finally be able to relieve the intense congestion that this site has had for many years and make the necessary upgrades to improve travel in this area of the county for years to come."
During the project, a new traffic signal will be installed. Additionally, the roadway will be resurfaced and restriped, and a sidewalk will be constructed along the eastbound side of Route 561.
The county government and Voorhees Township are conducting the joint project.
