7 Injured In North Jersey Chain Reaction Crash: NJSP

Seven individuals were injured in a multi-vehicle interstate crash in North Jersey on Monday, New Jersey State Police said.

BLOOMSBURY, NJ - Seven individuals were injured - some seriously - in a multi-vehicle interstate crash in North Jersey on Monday, authorities said.

Shortly before 4:25 p.m. on I-78 eastbound in Bloomsbury, a 2019 Kentworth pulling a utility trailer was traveling behind a Mazda CX-5 and struck the Mazda in the rear, New Jersey State Police Trooper Charles Marchan told Patch.

The Mazda then traveled off the roadway to the left and struck the guardrail, Marchan said, when a wheel from the Mazda became detached and struck a Kia Sorrento.

A 2019 Kentworth pulling a utility trailer continued traveling and struck the rear of a Toyota Camry, which struck the rear of a 2007 Freightliner also pulling a utility trailer, Marchan said.

The Kentworth then entered the right lane and struck a 2015 Freightliner box truck, Marchan added. As a result of the crash, the 2015 Freightliner struck the front of the 2007 Freightliner before traveling off of the roadway and striking the guardrail.

A 35-year-old female of Mount Laurel operating the Mazda suffered serious injuries; her two passengers, 4-year-old and 1-year-old boys, suffered moderate injuries, Marchan said.

A 50-year-old male operating the 2019 Kentworth suffered moderate injuries.

Three others, A 59-year-old male of Miden City, M.I., operating the 2007 Freightliner, a31-year-old male of New York, N.Y., operating the Toyota and a 43-year-old male of Elizabeth operating the 2015 Freightliner, suffered minor injuries.

“The crash remains under investigation and there is no additional information available at the moment,” Marchan said.
