HACKETTSTOWN, NJ - A 42-year-old Mansfield Township woman is in hot water after cashing a check she believed was sent to her by New Kids On The Block boy band member Jordan Knight, according to the Hackettstown Police Department.

Cynthia Salvadore said she received a phone call from someone who she said introduced himself as Jordan Knight from News Kids on the Block and said he wanted to send her a $2,700 check to cash and send the money to a charity in Nigeria, police said.

Salvadore received the check and cashed it at Anderson Cash Checking in Hackettstown and she deposited $2,000 into an account at a bank and purchased $700 in gift cards which those accounts were given to him, police said.

Hackettstown Police responded to Anderson Cash Checking in reference to a fraudulent check and through an investigation it was determined that Salvadore was scammed, authorities said.

Salvadore was charged on Dec. 19 with third-degree cashing a bad check and possession of a forged check and was released pending a court appearance, authorities said.
