Gunman Who Murdered NJ Woman And Her Dog Faces Judge

WARREN COUNTY, NJ — A Morris County man is headed to prison after he murdered a woman and a dog with a gun in Warren County two years ago.

Anthony J. Garvin, 34, of Netcong, was sentenced to 42 years in prison on Tuesday for murder, assault, and animal cruelty charges.

On June 27, 2024, around 8:15 a.m., police were called to a home in Independence Township, where they found 21-year-old Amanda Pulver had been shot to death.

Additionally, one of Pulver’s dogs had been shot several times, resulting in its euthanization.

An investigation revealed that Garvin had broken into the home and shot Pulver in the leg, causing her death.

A prosecutor said it appeared Garvin "lied in wait" to attack Pulver and that investigators found "concerning items" that suggested he may have planned to kidnap or sexually assault her, the Daily Record report said.

Garvin was found several hours later in Wyomissing, Pennsylvania, where he was arrested.

Warren County prosecutors confirmed that Pulver and Garvin were known to each other. In an earlier interview with Patch, Pulver’s older brother Darrin said Garvin was a "former friend," and the two were not in a romantic relationship.

Garvin was charged with first-degree murder, cruelty to animals resulting in death, and aggravated assault.

Garvin is required to serve at least 85 percent of his sentence. When released, he is ordered to pay mandatory fines and is to have no contact with the victim’s immediate family.
