WARREN COUNTY, NJ — A Warren County father has been arrested for the killing of his two-month-old daughter, prosecutors announced.
James A. Capo Jr., 39, of Phillipsburg, faces murder charges more than a year after his baby, Sophia Capo, was found dead, authorities say.
On April 17, 2025, police were called to the 700 block of Youngs Road in Lopatcong on reports of an unresponsive baby.
Authorities were told that Sophia had "fallen from a baby rocker," prosecutors say.
The infant had serious damage to her head and was rushed to a nearby hospital for emergency treatment. She was eventually airlifted to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia for further treatment.
Sophia died in the hospital on April 24, 2025.
The medical examiner's report said the cause of the death was blunt force trauma to Sophia's head, and the manner of death was homicide, prosecutors said.
After a 14-month-long investigation, Capo has been charged with homicide and endangering the welfare of a child.
Authorities have not yet released specifics connecting Capo to the death of his daughter, but check back with Patch as more information is made available.
If convicted, he could spend the rest of his life in prison.
