Drunk Man Gave Cigarette, Supermarket Discount Card As ID: Hackettstown Police

Neither were enough to prove his identity to police.

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ— While a supermarket discount card might get you savings on snacks, a Hackettstown man proved it will not save you from an arrest. Hackettstown Police said a man provided them with a Weis Markets discount card and a single cigarette as identification during an investigation.

A bar patron at Bea McNally’s flagged down police around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday after noticing a man in a parked car with cuts on his eyes, lips and hand, police said. Another witness told police they'd seen the man fall out of his car.

When police asked the man for identification, he allegedly handed them a cigarette and a Weis Markets discount card. Eventually he gave police his actual ID, which showed he was Kris Freund, 64, of Hackettstown.
