Drunk Sparta Man Caused Car Crackup: Police

C. Scott Caruso was charged with careless driving, police said.

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ - A 56-year-old Sparta man was charged with driving while intoxicated after a car crash on March 1, according to the Hackettstown Police Department.

Authorities responded to the intersection of Route 46 and Center Street on a report of a motor vehicle crash. Police said C. Scott Caruso was driving a 2015 Toyota and made a left-hand turn onto Route 46 and struck a 2019 Audi driven by 30-year-old Jason Apwah of Mount Olive Township.

While the officer was talking to Caruso, the officer detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage, police said. There were no reported injuries. Caruso was charged with driving while intoxicated, and careless driving and was released pending a court appearance.
