Heat Advisory in Effect in Hackettstown: Cooling Center in Hackettstown Municipal Building Friday

A heat advisory and an excessive heat watch has been issued.

There's a heat advisory in effect in Hackettstown until 8 p.m. on Friday, causing Hackettstown to open up a cooling center at the Hackettstown Municipal Building Friday, said the Hackettstown Police Department.

The cooling center at 215 Stiger Street will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. for any Hackettstown resident that doesn't have an air conditioning unit or for residents who lose power. For residents who loose power, tehy can also charge their cell phones, computers, etc. at the Hackettstown Municipal Building.

An excessive heat watch has also been issued today and is in effect from Saturday afternoon through Sunday evening.

This means there's a prolonged period of dangerously hot temperatures and high humidity levels will occur, said the Hackettstown Police Department.

The temperature is expected to reach 100 to 105 degrees on Friday afternoon, 105 to 110 degrees Saturday afternoon, and 102 to 107 degrees on Sunday afternoon.

The Hackettstown Police Department warns residents to take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. Make sure to know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heat stroke.

Make sure to wear light weight and loose fitting clothing and drink plenty of water while outside.
