Main Street Fire Caused by Electrical Problem

Fire in attic shut down route 46 in Hackettstown between Roosevelt Avenue and Baldwin Street for over two hours Wednesday night.

An issue with the electric in the attic caused the fire that shut down Route 46 in Hackettstown a little after 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday night, Hackettstown Police said.

According to Sgt. Darren Tynan, the fire at 26 Main Street caused smoke and water damage to the second floor of the home.

Emergency personnel were dispatched to the fire shortly after 8 p.m. for a report of smoke in the attic, Tynan said.

According to Tynan, the Main Street section of route 46 was closed between Roosevelt Avenue and Baldwin Street until just before 11 p.m. and the fire had been knocked down.
