For the first time ever, school board elections in New Jersey–for some towns–will run simultaneously to government elections this Tuesday, Nov. 6.
Earlier in 2012, Governer Chris Christie gave school boards in the state the option to move their elections from the final Tuesday in April to the same date as the general election. Hackettstown Public Schools took up on that opportunity, which is locked in for the next four years.
On the Hackettstown School Board, there are currently three open seats on the ballot. Two incumbents–Gus Bordi and Shawn Burke–are not being challenged for their seats.

The third available seat is currently held by Joseph Clarke. While Clarke is a sitting member of the board, he will be running as a write-in candidate during the election as he was appointed to his position after the deadline to be on the ballot had passed, according to Teresa Barna, Hackettstown Schools Business Administrator and Board Secretary.
Polls are open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 6.
