Jaws Of Life Used To Rescue Man From Car Crash: Hackettstown Police

He was in stable condition, police said.

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ — A three-car collision last week trapped one man inside his car and forced the closure of a Hackettstown for nearly two hours, police said.

A dump truck, driven by Nicholas Perna, 21, of Frenchtown, was stopped on Route 604 waiting to turn onto Waterloo Valley Road around 9:43 a.m. on Friday. Nicholas Cardone III, 38, of Stanhope, was stopped in his car behind the dump truck.

Denon Rogers, 27, of Hackettstown, struck Cardone's car at the intersection, pushing him into the dump truck, police said. Cardone was trapped inside of his car, and had to be freed with the Jaws Of Life.

Cardone was airlifted to Morristown Medical Center and, as of Saturday, is in stable condition, police said.

Rogers was issued a summons for carless driving. Neither he or Perna were injured.

Route 604 was closed for two hours Friday midday as a result of the accident. Hackettstown Police, Hackettstown fire, Hackettstown first aid, Hackettstown Detective Bureau, Hackettstown Fire Police, Mount Olive Twp. Fire Marshal, St Clare’s Medic Unit, Mount Olive Twp. Police and Byram Twp. Police all responded to the scene.
