Man Allegedly Strikes Tree and Leaves Scene of the Accident in Hackettstown
Hackettstown police arrested Jon Overbaugh for driving while intoxicated, among other charges.

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ — Police arrested a man for leaving the scene of an accident in Hackettstown, along with other charges, early Tuesday morning, police said.
Through investigation, police determined Jon Overbaugh, 28, of Washington, NJ, was driving north on Washington St. when he drove off the road and struck a tree. Overbaugh left the scene on foot, police said.
At around 12:54 a.m. Tuesday morning, officers responded to the area of Washington St. and Bells Lane after they received a report concerning a car accident where the driver left the scene on foot.

Officers found an unoccupied 2007 Honda in the area, with unsealed vodka shooter bottles located throughout the car, police said.
Overbaugh was found in the area of Bells Lane and Mitchell Rd. As an officer talked to Overbaugh, he detected the odor of an alcoholic beverage, police reported.

Overbaugh was charged with driving while intoxicated, possession of open containers of an alcoholic beverage in a motor vehicle, failure to maintain lane, careless driving, reckless driving, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to report an accident, police said. He was released pending a court appearance.
No one was injured in the accident.
