Mysterious Human Remains Found Along NJ Highway Under Investigation

A state employee found the person's remains while mowing the grass, authorities said.

ALLAMUCHY, NJ — Officials discovered human remains Thursday along the side of a New Jersey highway, according to State Police.

A New Jersey Department of Transportation employee was mowing the grass along the right shoulder of Interstate 80 East when they discovered a Black male's remains, authorities said. Police went to the scene at about 12:30 p.m. and opened an investigation, according to State Tpr. Brandi Slota.

Police have not identified the deceased person, and their cause of death remains unknown, authorities said.

"The incident remains under investigation and there is no additional information available at the moment," Slota told Patch.
