New Jersey Man Walks Across the US for Clean Water

New Jersey native, James Leitner, will depart on a more than 3,200 mile walk across the U.S. while pulling 90 lbs of water to raise awareness and funds for the 750 million people in the world who do not have access to clean water. He will leave from the WorldWater & Solar Headquarters in Princeton, NJ on May 17th, and will end 5-6 months later in San Francisco, CA. In April, Leitner completed his one year commitment of running a marathon a month for a year while carrying 45 lbs of water to raise awareness and funds for the Philadelphia Serengeti Alliance, a non-profit organization which repairs and installs wells in Tanzania. His walk across the country will continue to support this organization.

In Tanzania, many people, mostly women and children, have to walk 8-10 miles a day just to find unclean water for their families and communities. As a result, children cannot attend school, women cannot contribute to society in other ways, and disease is rampant. This is the harsh reality James hopes to display in his walk across the country, and the problem he has devoted his entire life towards resolving.
