A popular student-athlete was killed Friday in a fatal ATV crash in New Jersey, police said.

Connor Barbaro, 16, of White Township was driving a 2013 Honda ATV without a helmet about 7:30 p.m. Friday when the accident happened, according to the State Police.

The Belvidere High School junior, a popular student who excelled in soccer and basketball, was heading north in the southbound lane when he didn't stop at the intersection with Route 46, according to police.

On impact, Barbaro was thrown from the ATV by a 2004 Dodge Ram making the left from Route 46, police said.

He suffered severe head injuries and was flown to St. Luke's Hospital in Fountain Hill where he was pronounced dead at 9:36 p.m., according to nj.com.

A memorial was set up Saturday at the crash site; Superintendent Christopher Carrubba said counselors will be at the high school on Monday, according to the report.
