Pot Smoke Caused Dorm Evacuation: Hackettstown Police

Police said smoke coming from burnt marijuana set off the smoke alarm at a Centenary University dorm just after 1:30 a.m.

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ — A Centenary University dorm building was evacuated after marijuana smoke set off the fire alarm, Hackettstown Police said.

Around 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday, police and fire officials were called to Van Winkle Hall at the college after a fire alarm was activated. Police said burnt and raw marijuana could be smelled coming from a dorm room. No fire was found, and first responders determined that marijuana smoke was what set off the smoke alarm.

The student who lived in the room that smelled was found to be under the influence, police said. The 21-year-old from East Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania was charged with being under the influence and released with an upcoming court date.
