Re-election Sought By Just 1 of 2 Councilmen

No Democrats filed for Primary Election, town administrator says.

Just one of two Hackettstown Council incumbents will be running for re-election this year, while no Democratic challengers filed to run, according to Hackettstown Administrator Bill Kuster.

Republican and Deputy Mayor Gerald DiMaio, Jr., along with resident Matt Engelau filed petitions to be on the June 4 Primary Election ballot, while incumbent councilman John Stout did not, Kuster said.

Kuster did not mention why Stout is not seeking re-election.

Engelau joins DiMaio on the Republican ticket, which is not being opposed by any Democrats. A Democrat can run a write-in campaign during the Primary Election and, if enough votes are garnered, will be placed on the November General Election ballot.

The Hackettstown Council consists of six councilpersons and a mayor. Maria DiGiovanni is the current Hackettstown mayor.
