$12K State Grant Given to Recycling Center
Hackettstown one of 23 municipalities in Warren County receiving funds.

The Hackettstown Recycling Department recently received a grant from the state in the amount of $12,684, according to a press release from the Department of Environmental Protection.
The grant is being given so the recycling department to implement and enhance local recycling efforts, the release said.
Hackettstown was among 23 municipalities in Warren County receiving a total of $115,000 from the state. Statewide, grants totaled $13.1 million.

“Recycling is a high priority of the Christie Administration because it improves our environment while also creating tangible economic benefits for municipalities,’’ said Commissioner Bob Martin in the release. “As we observe the 25th anniversary of the state’s Mandatory Recycling Act this year, a landmark law that made New Jersey the first state to require recycling, we are making a call to action across the state for everyone to renew their commitment to recycle.’’
The Hackettstown Recycling Center is located at the Department of Public Works on East Plane Street.

In total, including all forms of waste, New Jersey recycled more than 13.3 million tons of the 22 million tons of solid waste generated in 2010, the release said. The overall recycling rate increased slightly from 56.9 in 2009 to 60.5 percent in 2010.
