Spring Break Just 3 Days in Hackettstown Schools

March's snow day truncates recess–again.

A late winter storm that closed Hackettstown Public Schools on March 8 has proven costly to students and faculty, taking yet another day away from spring break.

After the board of education amended the year’s calendar in November, following a week of closure due to Hurricane Sandy and its aftermath, it was decided that additional snow days would have to be made up during spring break, scheduled for April 1 to 5.

One day had already been removed from the recess because of a snow day used on Feb. 8; now it is being expanded to two class days because of March’s snowfall.

Because the district is a K-12, and the high school's Project Graduation date is set a year in advance, moving the graduation date is extremely difficult to do, the district said.

If all snow days are used in any particular school year, days are pulled from spring recess one at a time, working backward.
