Stolen Mustang Toy Returned Was Broken, So Donors Replaced It: Hackettstown Police

The person who took it thought the toy was garbage, police said, but returned it broken.

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ — After a child's beloved ride-on Mustang toy was stolen and returned broken, members of the community came together to replace it, Hackettstown police said.

The Mustang ride-on toy (pictured above), was taken on July 10. It was returned three days later, after the girl who took it returned it. She told the family she thought the toy was garbage at the time she took it, and was pressed by friends to give it back after seeing news stories.

The family didn't want to press charges, but there was one issue still: the toy no longer worked.

Luckily for the child, efforts were already underway to replace it. Before the toy was returned, an anonymous donor and Dr. James Fedich from Village Family Clinic donated money to buy a new Power Wheels Mustang for the child. It'll be in her driveway next week, police said.

"The child was extremely happy that her Mustang was returned but is happier now that she is getting one that will run," Sgt. Darren Tynan said.
