A line of strong thunderstorms moving east will hit the New Jersey as early as 5:30 p.m.

A line of strong thunderstorms moving east will hit New Jersey as early as 5:30 p.m., the National Weather Service is warning.

The storms, with 50 mph wind and heavy downpours, were moving from Central Pennsylvania around 1:30 p.m. and should make it to the Lehigh Valley by 4 p.m. and New Jersey by 6 p.m.

Impacted areas in New Jersey include the following counties: Somerset; Morris; Sussex; Atlantic; Hunterdon;Mercer; Warren; Camden; Salem; Cumberland; and Burlington.

In addition to strong wind gusts, the storms are producing cloud to ground lightning.

Residents in the impacted areas should monitor the news for updates, as the storms may intensify, causing severe thunderstorm or flash flood warnings, the NWS warns.
