Students Head to Jersey Shore for Sandy Aid

Hackettstown High School benefit project hauls 18-wheeler to Bayville.

After weeks of planning and collecting donations to help peers from afar, students from Hackettstown High School made their efforts known by bringing a tractor-trailer full of goods to the Jersey Shore.

Led by senior class advisor and Hackettstown High School physical education teacher Scout Bargiel, hundreds of students packed the 18-wheeler Thursday morning and accompanied it down to Central Regional High School in Bayville.

Since Hurricane Sandy struck the New Jersey coast, students from Seaside Heights have been using a dedicated wing of the school, since their normal institution is inoperable.

On top of that, the school has been used as a shelter for displaced residents.

"The experience was amazing," Bargiel said. "The staff and students at Central Regional were amazing; they were welcoming and so excited to have us. What an experience–we were thrilled to have done this."
