Summer Adventures Program: "Summer in the Secret Garden"

Summer Adventures at Macculloch Hall Historical Museum presents
“Summer in the Secret Garden” during the week of August 11 to August 15 from
9:00 am to noon. Has your child enjoyed reading the children’s classic, “The
Secret Garden,” yet?  The garden at
Macculloch Hall was once a “secret” garden that had become overgrown until it
was brought back to life in the 1950s. Children will spend time exploring the
garden just as characters Mary Lennox and Dickon did in the classic book by Frances
Hodgson Burnett.  Activities include
creating a mini garden by repotting herbs and flowering plants to take home,
searching for backyard birds, making seed paper, writing in calligraphy with pen
and ink, and creating character collages of favorite characters from the
story.  The week concludes with a picnic
in the garden and drama activities that reenact scenes from the story.

The “Summer in the Secret Garden” program is recommended
for children ages 9 – 12 years old. Preregistration is required.  Call (973) 538-2404 ext. 16 or email
cwinslow@maccullochhall.org to receive a registration form.  The cost for the week-long program is
$175/child for Museum members and $200/child for non-members.  Not yet a member?  Visit maccullochhall.org and become a member
