Suspended Driver Flees After Hackettstown Stop, Turns Self In, Cops Say

Phone call from authorities leads to man's apprehension in parking lot, police report.

A Washington Township man was arrested and charged with hindering apprehension after fleeing from a police officer during a motor vehicle stop, Hackettstown Police said.

Just after 12:30 a.m. Thursday, a Hackettstown police officer conducting routine patrol ran a license plate inquiry on a vehicle and showed the registered owner has a suspended license, Sgt. Darren Tynan said.

The officer then saw the car, driven by Shaun Reid, 32, of Washington Township, pull over on Sharp Street, Tynan said. When the officer approached Reid, the driver then fled on foot, Tynan said.

Reid was apprehended a short time later after police spoke with him by phone and explained to authorities he would turn himself in, Tynan said.

Reid was located in Hackettstown’s Municipal Lot No. 2 and charged with hindering apprehension, obstruction and driving while suspended.
