HACKETTSTOWN, NJ — The risk of wildfires will be high this afternoon, Hackettstown police said.
A cold front, paired with high winds and low humidity levels increase the risk, police said. There's also plenty of dry fuel for a fire. "These conditions could potentially support an enhanced risk for the spread of wildfires by the late morning or afternoon," police said.
Forest fires are usually started by humans, and can be prevented. Safety tips include always extinguishing fires and fireworks properly, avoid starting fires on windy days, and never throwing cigarette butts on the ground (you can read a full list of safety tips from the Red Cross here).
