Woman Run Over In Hackettstown Has Died: Police
Police are still investigating why Cruz-Leiva was in the road at the time of the crash.

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ — A woman run over while laying down in the road died at the hospital three days after she was struck, Hackettstown police said.
Bernarda Cruz-Leiva, 51, died at Morristown Medical Center on Tuesday, police said. Cruz-Leiva was laying down on Route 517 at the time of the accident, police said. It is still unclear why she was laying on the road.
A teenager was driving on on the road near Cook Street Saturday night when the car in front of her swerved suddenly to avoid something. The driver then saw the woman lying down in the road, but was unable to stop in time, police said.

According to a GoFundMe, Cruz-Leiva is originally from Costa Rica, and her family is raising money to return her body. No other information about Cruz-Leiva is currently available.
The crash and the cause of death remains under investigation; anyone with information is asked to contact the Hackettstown Police Department’s Detective Bureau at 908-852- 3302.
