Would-Be Burglar Caught Using Cell Phone Photo: Hackettstown Police

Police used a picture snapped by a homeowner to arrest a burglary suspect.

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ — A would-be burglar was arrested in Hackettstown Tuesday morning, after a quick thinking homeowner snapped a photo with their cellphone, Hackettstown police said.

Around 11:30 a.m., a man attempted to enter an East Baldwin Street home. He was seen by a homeowner attempting to get in and peering through windows. As he walked away, the home owner took pictures of him with their cell phone, police said.

As officers responded to the East Baldwin Street home, a person matching the burglar's description was found on East Prospect Street, police said. Using the cell phone photo, police were able to arrest Matthew Dughi, 28, of Independence Township.

Dughi was charged with fourth-degree criminal attempt burglary, third-degree possession of Suboxone and possession of hypodermic syringe. He was taken to the Warren County Correctional Facility.
