1 Killed After Driver Runs Red In Camden Co. Crash: Police

No charges have been announced, but the crash remains under investigation.

BERLIN, NJ — A man died from his injuries Saturday after a driver ran a red light and struck his vehicle the night prior in Berlin, officials said.

The collision took the life of Marvin W. Worthington, 68, according to police. Authorities identified the other driver as Patricia A. Avellino. No charges have been announced as of Wednesday morning, but the Berlin Police Department and Camden County Prosecutor's Office continue to investigate.

Police were dispatched at about 9:30 p.m. Friday after a report of a serious crash around Route 73 and Cross Keys Road.

Preliminary investigation from law enforcement determined that Avellino was driving northbound on Cross Keys Road and approaching Route 73. Meanwhile, Worthington was traveling southbound on Route 73 toward Cross Keys Road, police said.

Avellino, 57, proceeded through a red light at the intersection and struck Worthington's vehicle, sending it into the concrete median, authorities said. Worthington succumbed to his injuries the following morning, according to police.

Twenty-five people have died in crashes this year in Camden County, including five deaths in September, according to state records. Through this time last year, 40 people in the county died in reported traffic accidents.
