9/11 Heroes Run Set For Sunday Morning

The run at Cooper River Park is set to begin at 9:11 a.m.

The annual 9/11 Heroes Run 5K will take place Sunday morning, Sept. 11, at Jack Curtis Stadium in Cooper River Park, 9:11 a.m. A memorial ceremony follows at 10:15 a.m.

Cooper River Park is located at North Park Drive at McClellan Avenue in Pennsauken.

The 9/11 Heroes Run is held across the country and around the world, bringing communities together to honor the fallen by challenging the living.

Locally, it is held in cooperation with the Travis Manion Foundation and the Camden County Heroes Scholarship Fund.

Travis Manion was a Marine who visited Rescue Team One in New York City before his final deployment to Iraq where he made the ultimate sacrifice. The foundation that honors him supports veterans, their families, and the families of fallen service members through emergency assistance, scholarships, and other direct financial support in times of need.

The Camden County Hero Scholarship Fund provides post high school scholarships to children of law enforcement officers, firefighters and emergency medical service personnel who have died or been disabled in the line of duty.

“Fifteen years ago, our nation changed forever,” Camden County Freeholder Carmen Rodriguez said. “This year, the 9/11 Heroes Run will not only honor the sacrifices the men and women who perished on that fateful day, it will benefit the survivors of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country."
